Does planning to use MATE Desktop Environment in new versions?
I'd love to see Enlightenment
Openbox as a WM would be a good choice because of it's costumabilty and minimilistic.
Thank you for any consideration...
Mate nice looking and porting on freeBSD. Now ongoing development 1.8 release of MATE will be release in a few months. I mean Mate with MintMenu.
I installed PC-BSD on my Acer Timeline 4810TZ as they have just recently added my hardware to their compatability list... yeeeehhhh! But experienced too many problems and very slow too...I have 4 GB of Ram DDR3 and 500 HDD with Core 2 Duo processor.
So I started playing with LinuxMint 14 Cinnamon as I wanted to try something other than Openbox and just out of the box distro......And I must say that Cinnamon is a very configurable WM (DE)...and SUPER elegant!!! I am having a lot of fun, not to mentioned that LiniuxMint has always impressed me since I came to Linux world...with their very Elegant look and Style.
Here's a screenshot of my dekstop:
DesktopBSD + Cinnamon would be very NICE!!!
I agree with you, but when we will get new desktopBSD realese for testing? There is not any information. Six months? One year? More years?
I think MATE would not be the best choice for a Desktop Environment.
First of all it is still based upon GTK 2, which will be stopped to be developed sooner or later.
Some people want to port MATE to GTK3, but this didn't even start to happen yet (so unsure if it will ever happen), and it might even cause some problems as always if you start to base your environment upon a new library. A big team like that from Linux Mint might be able to handle those problems, but I wouldn't recommend it for DesktopBSD.
Cinnamon instead could be a really nice envrionment, it's already based upon GTK3 since beginning.
Also XFCE could be an interesting choice.
Razor-qt might be also worth to look at...
I wouldn't recommend KDE or GNOME, so that you won't get too much competition with PC-BSD or GhostBSD.
I personally would love to see Enlightenment as Desktop Environment.
Not just because I like the look and feel, but also it is very light weight and still very good looking.
Another thing to mention would be, that still not many distributions are using it as environment, which would make DesktopBSD even more unique and interesting.
This would help to revive the project, because "unique" things are always more attracting attention
I think the best desktop enviroment would be KDE!
As a Gnome 2 lover, I would stick with MATE for sure!
Only Mate. No alternative for de
Maybe it will be also mate in DesktopBSD if will be eagers to maintain it and to join DesktopBSD team.
